How to disable USB/Flash Drive in Windows XP, VISTA, 7

This function is used to disable USB/Flash Drive on his/her Personal Computer to prevent unwanted transferring of data on the USB/Flash Drive or to the Computer without the User’s Permission.

Generally this function is used at School’s, College’s etc.

There are many Methods to Disable the USB/Flash Drive. I am going to tell you 3 Methods:-

1.      Via Registry Editor

2.      Via Device Manager

1.      Via Registry Editor

·         Disable

                       1.  Click on Start, & then click on Run,

                                   OR

                         Press Windows Key +R,

                       2. Type regedit , & then click OK,

                       3. Navigate to: - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor

                        4. In the Right Pane, Double-Click on START,

                        5. In the Value Data Dialog Box, Change its value to 4 from 3.

                        6. The USB/Flash Drive will be disabled by this.

·         Enable

      1.  Click on Start, & then click on Run.

                                                OR

                              Press Windows Key  +R

                        2. Type regedit , & then click OK.

                        3. Navigate to: - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor

                        4. In the Right Pane, Double-Click on START.

                        5. In the Value Data Dialog Box, Change its value to 3 from 4.

                        6. The USB/Flash Drive will be enabled by this.

2. Via Device Manager

·         Disable

           1.      Click on Start Button,

           2.      Click on Control Panel,

           3.      Open Device Manager from Control Panel,

           4.      Now Double-Click on Universal Serial Bus Controller,

           5.      Choose the USB/Flash Drive from the List which u wanted to Disable it,
           6.      Now Right-Click on the Name of the USB/Flash Drive, & Select Disable  option in it,

           7.      The USB/Flash Drive will be disabled.

·         Enable

           1.      Click on Start Button,

           2.      Click on Control Panel,

           3.      Open Device Manager from Control Panel,

           4.      Now Double-Click on Universal Serial Bus Controller,

           5.      Choose the USB/Flash Drive from the List which u wanted to Disable it,

           6.      Now Right-Click on the Name of the USB/Flash Drive, & Select Enable      option in it,

           7.      The USB/Flash Drive will be enabled.
